Three Major Milestones for Our Creatine Straw Technology
From Development to Commercialization
We are pleased to share three important developments in the continued commercialization of our creatine straw platform.
Over the past year, our work has progressed from product development and laboratory testing into intellectual property protection and commercial manufacturing. Most recently, we have reached several significant milestones:
-
Filing of our formal U.S. nonprovisional patent application covering our creatine straw technology.
-
Filing of a new separate provisional patent application covering what we refer to internally as Creatine Delivery 2.0.
-
These filings bring our patent filings to six, covering not only our creatine delivery platform, but also our other straw-based delivery technologies.
-
The formal start of commercial production for our first two white-label creatine straw customers.
Together, these developments represent an important transition from development-stage technology toward a commercially produced functional delivery platform.
Formal Nonprovisional Patent Application Filed
We recently filed our U.S. nonprovisional patent application covering our creatine straw technology.
This filing follows the provisional patent application we submitted about a year earlier and marks the next stage in protecting the intellectual property we have developed for delivering substantial quantities of creatine through a drinking straw.
Traditional ingredient-delivery straws have generally been associated with relatively small quantities of flavoring or other ingredients. Our development work has focused on something significantly different: creating a practical straw that can carry and rapidly deliver a meaningful creatine serving while maintaining normal beverage flow and a straightforward consumer experience.
In recent testing, we demonstrated rapid delivery of the creatine in the straw using relatively small amounts of water. Those results have guided both our patent strategy and our ongoing development work. The bottom line is that our creatine delivery platform is performing as designed and as we expected.
Introducing “Creatine Delivery 2.0”
Our second recent milestone involves a separate area of development.
After months of R&D and testing, we filed an additional U.S. provisional patent application covering a new generation of technology we currently refer to as Creatine Delivery 2.0.
For now, we are intentionally keeping the technical details confidential.
What we can say is that this work grew out of what we learned while developing and manufacturing our original creatine straw platform. As frequently happens during product development, solving one engineering problem led us to identify additional opportunities to improve how functional ingredients can be incorporated into and delivered through a drinking straw.
Creatine Delivery 2.0 represents the next phase of that work.
We believe the technology could further expand what can practically be accomplished with the straw delivery format. We will provide additional information when we believe the timing is appropriate.
For now, the important point is that our intellectual property development has not stopped with the original creatine straw. We continue to develop new approaches that we believe may substantially improve functional ingredient delivery through this format.
Commercial Production Has Begun
Perhaps the most important milestone from a business standpoint is that the technology is no longer limited to development and testing. We have now formally begun commercial production of creatine straws for two white-label customers.
This is an important step for us.
Moving from prototypes to repeatable commercial production requires considerably more than demonstrating that a concept works. Formulation, ingredient handling, filling, drying, quality control, packaging requirements, and manufacturing consistency all have to function together as part of a repeatable process.
Our first white-label production programs are allowing us to move that process into real commercial use.
We expect white-label manufacturing to remain an important part of our business model. Creatine is particularly well suited to this approach because brands can differentiate their products through flavor, formulation, packaging, and additional functional ingredients while using the straw itself as a distinctive delivery system. However, expect to see Lelantos launch its own brands soon.
We have already developed creatine straws in several flavor profiles, including plain, lemon, grape, and cherry, and the platform can be adapted to many conventional beverage-style flavors.
These three developments represent different parts of the same strategy.
Our nonprovisional patent filing is intended to protect the foundational creatine straw technology we have spent considerable time developing.
Creatine Delivery 2.0 represents our continuing effort to advance that technology beyond its current capabilities.
And the beginning of production for two white-label customers represents the commercial validation that ultimately matters most: moving the technology out of development and into products that will reach consumers.
There is still considerable work ahead, but this is an important point in the platform's evolution.
What began as an effort to determine whether a meaningful serving of creatine could practically be delivered through a drinking straw has now progressed into patent-pending technology, a second generation of intellectual property, and active commercial production.
We look forward to sharing additional developments as the technology and the business continue to advance.
